Our Story
Located on Lopez Island in Washington state, Lopez Island Grange #1060 is a 501(c)(8) committed to supporting agriculture and community. Built in 1903, the Grange building was originally Center Schoolhouse, one of four schools on the island before the district consolidated in the 1940's. Shortly thereafter under the auspices of the National Grange and Washington State Grange, the building began its new life as Lopez Island Grange #1060. The volunteer Lopez Island Grange membership and board have stewarded the building ever since. Since its acquisition, the Lopez Grange membership has conducted monthly Grange meetings, made the building available for community usage, and has been responsible for its ongoing maintenance. As a cherished island institution, the Grange has been and continues to be a vital community-gathering place.
Our mission is: To serve as a welcoming place of fellowship, promoting agriculture, history, the arts, educational, recreational, and cultural activities, and to maintain and preserve our historic hall.
Much of our efforts today are focused on restoration projects large and small so we may preserve our building for generations to come. To donate or volunteer please contact us here.
